WIRTZ Jean
Johann WIRTZ (No 1) was born in Gaaschtmühle (Mamer) in 1818.
Johannes WIRTZ (No 2), his younger brother, was born in Holzem in 1829.
Their father, also called Jean (No 3), was born in 1783 in Moestroff and was first a Müller in Mamer and then became a charpentier in Holzem. He was married to Maria PESCHON, born 1788 in Holzem.
Jean WIRTZ father (No 3), besides being a charpentier, was a mécanicien since he is reported having built a Dreschmaschine in 1839.
In 1843, the year in which the first census in Luxembourg was recorded, the family was living in Holzem to where it had moved around 1822.
In 1848 Jean WIRTZ (No 3), Dreschmaschinenfabrikant, advertised farming machinery that he was selling.
According to the 1858 Census Jean (No 1) had taken over the charpentier-mécanicien business in Holzem and was assisted by his younger brother, Jean (No 2); both were single at the time.
Jean WIRTZ father (No 3) died in Holzem in 1862.
The 1871 Census shows that the two brothers were married, had children, and were living next door to each other in Holzem. Both were Mechaniker.
Jean WIRTZ (No 1), the present inventor, died in 1886 in Mamer.
