WAMPACH Aloyse Nicolas

Aloyse WAMPACH was born in 1891 in Esch sur Alzette. His father Jean Baptiste, born in Grevenmacher, was a Lehrer.
Aloyse studied at the Ecole Industrielle et Commerciale in Luxembourg-city (“promotion 1910-1911”) and became an engineer.
WAMPACH must have resided in Hagondange (Metz) around 1920. He was enrolled in the French Army as réserviste. In 1931, however, he was struck off the Army Register (“ … rayé le 17.7.1931 comme étant de nationalité luxembourgeoise …”).
In 1921 WAMPACH founded a company with Louis MOLLING. The company carried the name of “Aloyse Wampach et Louis Molling, ingénieurs”.
MOLLING was an ingénieur des mines who had graduated at the Université de Louvain and subsequently set up his own business in Ettelbruck in 1920:

Vertretung in Eisenkonstruktionen, Wellblechbauten, sowie all. Blechwaren.
Louis Molling, Dipl.-Ing, Ettelbrück.

The WAMPACH-MOLLING company presented a bid for setting up a national electricity generating plant based on coke firing:

Gar viel wurde in letzter Zeit geschrieben und geredet über die Elektrifizierung des Großherzogtums. Es handelt sich um die Lieferung des elektrischen Stromes durch die Hütten, also durch eine bestehende Industrie, oder durch eine eigens dazu zu errichtende Zentrale auf der Basis einer Kokerei, also durch eine vollständig neu zu schaffende Industrie. Diese letzte Lösung wird, wie bekannt, verwirklicht durch das Projekt Wampach-Molling, das den Bau einer eigenen Landeszentrale vorsieht mit allen damit zusammenhängenden Mittel und Kleinindustrien, welche die wertvollen Nebenprodukte der Kokerei weiter verarbeiten sollen.

The proposal made on behalf of the Brussels company “Compagnie industrielle et commerciale d’électricité s.a.” generated a lot of controversy in political circles and in the press.
It took many years to reach a political decision on the model of a national electricity supply system.
The WAMPACH-MOLLING proposal was finally discarded in December 1927:

Man hat die Offerte Wampach & Molling, welche 10 Centimes pro Kilowatt für das ganze Land billiger stand und für die seinerzeit die Rechtspartei sich einsetzte, trotz unseres Protestes niedergeknüppelt.

The French company “Electrification industrielle” was awarded the supply contract for the “Elektrifizierung des Landes“.
In 1934 WAMPACH registered the commercial firm “Aloyse Wampach, représentation de firmes techniques” in Luxembourg-city (61 avenue Victor Hugo) and continued doing business on his own.
After WWII he acted as “ingénieur en chef au département Industries de l’Office des Séquestres”.
Aloyse WAMPACH never married. He died in 1971 in Luxembourg-city at the age of 79.
