TOBES Jean Pierre

Jean Pierre TOBES was born in Hamm; his father was an Ackerer.
He studied mécanique at the Ecole des Artisans in Luxembourg. He later took on the title of Ingenieur.
He married Marie Marguerite CONER in Esch sur Alzette in 1912 and in 1913 he is reported as the Direktor of the Schlackenmühle in Longwy.
In 1917 he is mentioned as Direktor of the building company “Bruch/Ziegler” in Berchem.
In 1918 TOBES founded his own company in Esch sur Alzette under the name of “Comptoir Technique Industriel”. He advertised the company in the following terms:

Auf Stand 235/6 in der großen Industriehalle stellt die bestens bekannte Firma ihre Ventilatoren für Schmieden und sonstigen Bedarf wie z. B. Orgelgebläse, Absaug-Ventilatoren usw. aus. Fabrikanten dieser Produkte sind Meidinger & Co., Basel.

He was politically engaged in the Fédération radicale et socialiste and was candidate for the parliamentary elections in 1920.
In the years 1925 to 1929 he took part in several industrial ventures.
In 1929 TOBES bought the Schleifmühl near Hamm and in 1932 he founded the company “Travauxlux (entreprise de travaux publics)” in Schleifmühl.
He developed and patented a novel Pavé pour revêtements de routes et autres usages. He further created a number of industrial tools and equipment.
TOBES died in 1947 in Luxembourg-city.
