TERRENS René

René TERRENS, son of a Schuhmacher, was born in Hollerich in 1906.
He became a builder (entrepreneur), but his company went bankrupt in 1932 and its assets were put up for auction. Even TERRENS’ private possessions were seized and publicly auctioned.
In 1937, however, through a requête en réhabilitation, TERRENS recovered his rights to run a business.
In the mid-1930s he married Madeleine MERSCH and together they founded the company EDIM in November1936 (La société a pour objet, l’édition, l’impression, la diffusion et la vente de journaux, périodiques et publications de toute nature …). EDIM published a weekly newspaper under the name of “National-Echo”. The project became very controversial and by January 1937 EDIM was already dissolved.
TERRENS was the leader of the “Luxemburger Nationalpartei” (L.N.P.) and apparently used the new publication for propagating his political views.
In April 1940 TERRENS sold a property in Simmern “wegen Abreise”. In fact, he did not leave Luxembourg, as he resided in the early 1940s in Luxembourg-city (12 rue Pierre d’Aspelt).
In July 1940 he founded with his wife Madeleine MERSCH the company HANSEAT s.à r.l. (“La société a pour objet l’exploitation d’une entreprise de représentations commerciales et industrielles …”). The company operated throughout the war years in the couple’s home address (12 rue Pierre d’Aspelt). During the NAZI occupation years TERRENS had to adopt the first name “Reinhard”, the German version of René.
In 1955 TERRENS created the company “Intergaz s.a”. (with seat first in 6 rue C.M. Spoo, then in 125 rue Adolphe Fischer and soon after in Bertrange) and in 1954 he created “René Terrens & Cie”.
Over the years TERRENS held a number of residences in Luxembourg-city: Howald, Bereldange, 3 rue Maréchal Foch, 6 plateau Altmünster.
His name is mentioned in a couple of court cases.
TERRENS had three children born respectively in 1938, 1939 and 1943. He died in Luxembourg-city in 1982, at the age of 76.
