SPLITTGERBER Wilhem
Wilhelm SPLITTGERBER was born in 1890, probably in France (Lorraine) under the German occupation and he was probably a German citizen.
He became a peintre and married Felizitas Margareta POPP. The couple resided in Metz, where two of their children were born (1914/1921).
In 1920 SPLITTGERBER was sentenced in Metz to two months prison “pour escroquerie”.
By 1926 he had left France and set up as Dekorationsmaler in Esch sur Alzette. In 1929 he closed his “decoration material” shop in Esch sur Alzette and converted it into a café (”Café zum Komet”). Initially he kept his services for decoration activities.
SPLITTGERBER, together with his second wife Anna SIDOT, ran the café in Esch sur Alzette up to 1944.
At the end of WWII, SPLITTGERBER’s assets were seized and he was ordered to leave the country. (He had presumably collaborated with the NAZI occupant).
He settled in Trier where he founded in 1950 the “Interessenverband der vertriebenen Luxemburg-Deutschen im Bundesgebiet”. The object of the association was obtaining adequate compensation for the seized property.
In 1952 SPLITTGERBER’s café was sold by the Luxembourg ”Sequesteramt” in a public auction.
