SCHNITZLEIN Friedrich

(1846 - 1902)
Nürnberg (DE)

Friedrich SCHNITZLEIN was born in Nürnberg in 1846. He was married to Sophie LÖSSL. The couple had their first child in 1872, born in Nürnberg.
The family of 3 left Nürnberg around 1874 to settle in Luxembourg where three more children were born between 1876 and 1880.
SCHNITZLEIN was a mechanic who came to Luxembourg to work for the local railway company. He lived with his family in Bonnevoie. His occupation as recorded in the birth and marriage registers of his children and as reported in the local press, can be summarised as follows:

1876 Eisenbahn, Maschinen Meister
1891 Maschinen-Inspektor
1898 Kaiserlicher Baurath, Vorstand der Maschinen Inspektion

In his British patent obtained in 1898 SCHNITZLEIN refers to himself as architect.
He obviously became one of the managers of the railway company, as further evidenced by the fact that, in 1898, well known Joseph JUNCK, Stationsvorsteher, was a witness at the marriage of his eldest son.
SCHNITZLEIN also became known in Luxembourg as lecturer (conférencier) and court expert (Sachverständiger).
When SCHNITZLEIN died in 1902, at the age of 56, his death was even reported to the German/Luxembourg emigration community in the USA:

Luxemburg. – Baurath Friedrich Adolf August Schnitzlein erlag in seiner Wohnung am Bahnhof einem Herzleiden.

A short notice published in 1902 gives further details of his professional career:

SCHNITZLEIN’s house on 1 Boulevard de la Pétrusse was sold by auction in April 1903.
