SCHANDELER Charles

(1848 - 1908)
Eschdorf

Charles SCHANDELER was born in 1848 in Eschdorf. His father was a Gastwirt.
In 1884 SCHANDELER (pensionierter Gendarm at the age of 36!) married Anne MATTES of Esch sur Alzette and settled in the latter city as Kaufmann.
He operated his retail business in n° 16 Luxemburger Strasse under the commercial name of “Ch. SCHANDELER-MATTES”. It must have been a shop selling a large variety of household products.

SCHANDELER closed his shop in 1896 and took over the general representation of bottled water produced by “Schlossbrunnen Gerolstein”.
The above curriculum suggests that SCHANDELER was not technically accomplished and that he was not a co-inventor of a process patented in 1898 in UK, France and Luxembourg with co-applicant JACOBI Johann Karl.
The latter was a “boiler maker” in Roth (near Vianden) and most likely the true inventor of the patented process. JACOBI is the owner of a second patent relating to “tuyere noses”, which patent application he filed in 1899 in Luxembourg only (LU3605: “Procédé de fabrication de museaux de tuyères”).
In 1906 Charles SCHANDELER was reported as “pensionné”.
SCHANDELER died in 1908 in Esch-sur-Alzette, at the age of 60.
