RAUCHS Nicolas

Nicolas RAUCHS was born in 1863 in Ettelbruck; his father was a Wagener.
By 1867 the family RAUCHS had moved to Hollerich. Nicolas thus grew up in Hollerich.
He became an employé des Postes in 1883 and advanced to commis (1887) and finally to sous-chef de bureau au bureau des Postes à Luxembourg-gare (1909).
In 1886 he married Elise Maria Charlotte WORTMINGER VON STEIN, born in Merl/Hollerich. She was the daughter of a Handschuhschneider.
The couple settled in Merl/Hollerich (Hollericherstrasse) and later in 3 rue Juliette (rue de la Renaissance) in Luxembourg-gare.
In 1919, at the age of 56, he retired from the position of sous-chef au bureau des postes à Luxembourg-gare (see Addendum).
He took part in public life (Luxemburger Mieterschutz-Verein, Genossenschaft “Le Progrès”, candidate for the Arbeiterpartei at the Luxembourg-city elections in 1928, …).
Nicolas’ wife Elise died in 1928.
In 1946 he resided in the Viandenerstrasse in Luxembourg-city.
Nicolas RAUCHS died in 1950 in Luxembourg-city.
