MICHEL François
François MICHEL was born in 1886 in Metz, son of Luxembourgish parents. The first names under which he was registered at birth were in fact “Jacob Georg Johann Peter”, but he used “François” as first name.
His professional career is extensively described in an obituary published in 1971. (See Addendum).
He obtained a doctorate in chemistry at the University of Bern (CH). His first jobs led him to Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
After WWI he settled in Luxembourg. As of 1920 he resided in Luxembourg-city (12 rue des Capucins).
He was a founding member of the PHARCHIAL company and became its director in 1920.
In 1922 François MICHEL registered his private laboratory in the “Registre aux firmes” which he called “Bureau et Laboratoire pour l’Industrie Chimique”.
In 1924 he created two additional companies (“Oiloff Works”, “Laboratoire du Rheumaterm”).
In 1925 MICHEL married Anna JEBLICK, born in Luxembourg-city. She was also a qualified chemist.
François MICHEL died in 1970 in Luxembourg-Howald where he had established his private laboratory in the 1920s.
