LEWANDOWSKI Erich
Erich LEWANDOWSKI was born in 1908 in Düsseldorf and started his professional career in Düsseldorf in the late 1920s as kaufmännischer Angestellte. He was probably employed in a firm that his uncle Armand MARGULIUS (1881-1968) managed in Düsseldorf (Damen-Berufskleiderfabrik).
MARGULIUS and LEWANDOWSKI, being of Jewish confession, fled from the Nazis to Luxembourg in the mid-1930s.
In 1936 MARGULIUS bought the Larochette company “Vestimenta s.a.” which had been founded in 1934.
He appointed his nephew Erich LEWANDOWSKI as Co-Director.
In 1940 the two directors fled a second time from the Nazis and went to the south of France. “Vestimenta s.a” was seized and managed during the Nazi occupation by a German company.
After WWII, MARGULIUS and LEWANDOWSKI returned to Larochette in 1945 and recuperated their factory.
The company specialised in manufacturing Berufskleidung, including army uniforms.
MARGULIUS died in 1968 and LEWANDOWSKI managed the company at least up to 1971.
The factory was finally closed in 1984.
LEWANDOWSKI was a keen swimmer and even took part in a swimming event in 1988, at the age of 80!
He thus died after 1988.
