LAUTERBUR Paul

Paul LAUTERBUR, who received a Nobel Prize in 2003 for his contribution to the development of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology, was of Luxembourg descent.
His great-grandfather Nicolas LAUTERBORN was born in 1827 in Dahlheim, son of a Wagner. He must have emigrated to the the USA around 1850.
In December 1851 Nicolas married Anna Maria NICK (b. 1830 in Niedercorn) in New Riegel, Seneca, Ohio (USA). Nicolas took on the family name LAUTERBUR.
The couple settled in Big Spring Township, Seneca and had fifteen children.
Paul LAUTERBUR, born in 1929 in Sidney, Shelby, Ohio was one of the descendants of Nicolas, born in Dahlheim.
Paul’s biography, in particular his professional career, is well documented.
He died in 2007 in Urbana, Champaign, Illinois (USA).
