KÜNTSCH Louis

Louis (Lou) KÜNTSCH was the son of Michel Albert KÜNTSCH (1887-1970) and Anna KUNSCH (1893-1976).
Lou’s father, Albert KÜNTSCH, born in Buschdorf, was the son of maître-menuisier Jean-Pierre KÜNTSCH (1841-1934). Albert, like his father, qualified as Schreinermeister in 1909 and settled in Esch sur Alzette as Kunstschreiner. In 1911 he married Anna KUNSCH in Niederanven.
In 1929 Albert opened a Mechanische Schreinerei in Esch sur Alzette (29 Adolf-Emil Strasse). However, 6 years later, in 1935, his estate was put up for sale as he could not reimburse a bank mortgage debt taken out in 1930.
In 1935 the oldest son Jean Pierre (Ali) KÜNTSCH (1912-1985), Schreinermeister, set up a furniture shop in Esch sur Alzette (130 Alzette Strasse).
Albert KÜNTSCH’s second son Lou KÜNTSCH was still training to become a Schreinermeister. He qualified in 1938.
It would appear though that the forced sale of the KÜNTSCH estate was avoided.
After their father’s financial problems the sons Ali and Lou KÜNTSCH founded in 1938 the company Menuiserie KÜNTSCH in Esch-sur-Alzette:

Die beiden Kontrahenten bilden hiermit eine Familiengesellschaft als Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, unter dem Gesellschaftsnahmen «Menuiserie Küntsch G. m. b. H. mit Sitz in Esch a. d. Alz.
Die Gesellschaft hat zum Zwecke das von den beiden Gesellschaftern bisher gemeinschaftlich betriebene Möbelgeschäft sowie Bauschreinerei, Bestattungsinstitut und Transportunternehmen, weiter zu betreiben und gegebenenfalls auszubauen und durch andere damit zusammenhängende Geschäfte zu vergrößern.

However Ali and Lou separated soon after (around 1939) and Lou KÜNTSCH continued offering carpenter’s services in Esch sur Alzette under the trade name of “Menuiserie Lou Küntsch, fabrique de meubles”. He set up a new showroom in Esch sur Alzette (9 Alzette Strasse).
Ali KÜNTSCH moved to his wife’s home town Grevenmacher where he set up a Tabakwaren-Grosshandlung.
Lou KÜNTSCH’s furniture business expanded. In 1949 he set up a showroom in Luxembourg-city (corner rue Beaumont/rue de la Porte Neuve). His company lasted at least until the 1970s.
Lou KÜNTSCH died after 1993.
