KRAUS Remy
Marie Jean Remy KRAUS was the son of Mathias KRAUS (1854-1924) and Susanna BECK (1861-1949). Mathias, born in Berbourg, became a Lehrer in Luxembourg-city and later in life (1896) a Buchhändler.
The couple KRAUS-BECK had eleven children. Remy, the ninth child, was born in n° 1 Regierungsgasse in Luxembourg-city where his father had a book and paper shop. The family later moved to Arloner-Strasse.
When Mathias KRAUS died in December 1924 Remy KRAUS, commerçant, was resident in Strasbourg, as evidenced by his engagement (promesse de mariage) with Eugénie (Juliette) SCHOLTES (b. 1907) which was registered in September 1924 in the Strasbourg Civil Register.
Remy and his brother Léon (b. 1899) briefly took over the KRAUS shop. To this effect Remy KRAUS registered in January 1925 a company in Luxembourg, labeled as follows:
Kraus Remy, Luxembourg. Messagerie de journaux et propriétaire du journal “La Tribune Sportive”.
Remy’s brother Paul KRAUS (1885-1942) finally took control of the family business in 1925 and became the founder of the “Messagerie PAUL KRAUS”.
In 1926 Eugénie (Juliette) asked for and obtained a séparation des biens from her husband. Not only did Remy break with his wife but he also did so with his family, when he refused to cooperate in resolving the succession of his father’s legacy in 1931.
As of the 1940s he lived in 21 avenue Monterey, in Luxembourg-city.
In 1944 a notice published in the local press suggests that Remy KRAUS was an ancien légionnaire.
Remy KRAUS died in Ettelbruck in 1976.
