KAUFFMANN Moritz

(1867 - 1943)
Rouen (FR)

Maurice Mayer (Moritz) KAUFFMANN was born in 1867 in Rouen (FR). He settled in Paris where he was director of a publishing company, before becoming a marchand.
In the summer of 1913 he came as a visitor to Mondorf les Bains for a health cure.
It is not known when he took up residence in Luxembourg. It must have been in the early 1930s.
In 1932 KAUFMANN obtained a Luxembourg trademark registration for the device mark “DUPLEX” for the following goods:

Ofenroste aller Art

At about the same time he acquired Luxembourg patent n°17525 from Lina STEINMETZ-BORDT, resident of Saarbrücken. The patent dated from 1930.
In August 1933 he obtained an additional patent in his own name on improvements on the process and apparatus described in the initial patent, and in November 1933 he founded the company “Société Belgo-Luxembourgeoise de la Grille Duplex” with his associate Robert MARTIN.
In 1934 KAUFMANN obtained patents in Luxembourg and Belgium for a second improvement on the invention he had made in 1933. He resided in Luxembourg-city (15 rue d’Orange).
The company “Société Belgo-Luxembourgeoise de la Grille Duplex”, however, was dissolved in March 1935.
It is not known how long KAUFFMANN resided in Luxembourg.
KAUFFMANN died in Auschwitz in 1943.
