HERTZ Jules

Jules HERTZ was born in 1902 in Ettelbruck. His father Daniel HERTZ was a Handelsmann/Viehhändler, born in Waldbillig. His mother Ricka PFEIFFER was of German origin. The HERTZ-PFEIFFER couple had 11 children, Jules being the youngest.
Daniel HERTZ died in 1920 and his business interests were probably administered by his widow and the elder children. In 1930 the family members created the company “Mobilia s.a.” having as object:

… l’achat et la vente à crédit de meubles meublants, d’articles de ménage et en général d’effets mobiliers de toute espèce.

Jules, at the time was an employé commercial, and held 10% of the shares. The company was managed by his elder brothers Joseph, Nathan, Rodolphe and Max.
In 1934 Jules founded his own enterprise “Au Petit Louvre” in 8 Place Guillaume.
In 1940 most of the HERTZ family members, including Jules, fled from the Nazis and settled in the USA. In 1942 Jules enrolled in the US Army.
Upon his return to Luxembourg in 1945 Jules took over the company “KOMFORT” which his brother Max had founded in 1934 under the name of “BON-SOM”, and which had been confiscated by the Nazi occupants and renamed KOMFORT.
The company retrieved its pre-war name “Manufacture de couvre-lits BON-SOM” and was still located in Luxembourg-city (33 rue Wilson).
In 1962 BON-SOM inaugurated its new factory in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie (10 rue des Gaulois) where it employed 38 people.
Jules HERTZ died in Luxembourg-city in 1988. He was married to Rosette ISRAEL who died in 1973 in Luxembourg-city.
