HERBER Albert
Albert HERBER was born in Tres Arroyos (Buenos Aires)/Argentina in 1892 as Gregor Anton HERBER. He later used Albert as first name.
His father Johann HERBER was born in 1848 in Biwer/Grevenmacher and his mother Angela ALFF was born in Hemstal/Bech. The couple married in 1880 in Bech. Johann’s occupation was Schuster.
The couple settled in Biwer where Johann worked as Schuster but, by 1882, when their second child was born, Johann’s occupation was Taglöhner.
Johann and Angela had five children when they emigrated to Argentina towards the end of 1888. Three more children were born in Argentina. Albert was the youngest child, born in 1892.
It is not known when the family decided to return to Luxembourg but the Biwer Census of 1900 lists the parents with 6 children. Father Johann HERBER’s occupation was Kaufmann.
Albert HERBER thus grew up in Biwer but later became a Handelsmann in Germany.
In 1921 he married Ida CANDIDUS in Darmstadt (DE). Their first child was born in Bad Kreuznach (DE).
The family probably moved to Luxembourg around 1927. Albert became gérant of a distillery in Useldange.
In 1936, in association with a Dutch company, he founded the company “Société des Couleurs et des Produits chimiques A. Herber & Compagnie”. The object of the company was “le commerce et la fabrication de couleurs, vernis, huiles, graisses ainsi que tous les articles similaires et produits chimiques de toute nature”.
Albert HERBER died in June 1940 and the company was dissolved.
His widow Ida CANDIDUS sold her furniture in a public auction in November 1940 (verzugshalber).
