HENRY Raymond

Raymond Jean Baptiste HENRY was born on 14 August 1884 in Mont-sur-Marchienne (Charleroi) as an illegitimate son of Esther Marie HENRY.
He qualified as engineer in Mons and carried the title of “Ingénieur A. I. Ms.”.
He left Belgium for Luxembourg and joined the steelworks in Rodange.
In 1920, at the age of 36, he married Rosine WILWERTZ, born in Wiltz.
HENRY settled in Rodange where he became chief engineer at the local steel plant and later he advanced to become one of the directors of the Société Minière et Métallurgique de Rodange.
In 1940 HENRY was active in the Luxembourg resistance movement against the German occupation but at the end of 1941 he was ordered by the nazi occupier to leave Luxembourg.
On 1 November 1943 he decided to join the Belgian resistance movement. He spent a whole year in the Belgian “Patriotesche milities” (see Addendum). In 1952 he was honoured by the Belgian State as “Résistant Armé”.
His merits during the Nazi occupation in Belgium also received recognition in Luxembourg:

Hautes distinctions: M. Raymond Henry, Directeur en retraite des Usines de Rodange, vient de recevoir de Bruxelles les brevets lui octroyant la médaille de la Résistance ainsi que la médaille commémorative de la Guerre 1940-1945, avec, sur le ruban de cette distinction honorifique, deux sabres croisés, au titre de Résistant Armé.

Raymond HENRY died in Brouch (Mersch) in 1958. He had no children.
