HAAS Charles
Charles Paul Michel HAAS was born in Tétange (Kayl) in 1885. His father was an Ackerer.
In 1904 Charles HAAS completed his studies at the Ecole industrielle et commerciale in Luxembourg-city; he was living then in Rumelange.
He pursued his studies in Liége where he obtained in 1909 his diploma of ingénieur des mines. He joined the French Société anonyme de travaux Dyle et Bacalan and became consulting engineer for the company in New York.
In 1916 HAAS married Pauline DE CAGENAVE in New York. Pauline was of French origin and was born in Toulouse.
HAAS left the United States around 1927 to take up a position in Bous (Saarland, France) as Directeur de la Société des Aciéries et Usines à Tubes de la Sarre. In 1933 he was honoured in France when he was named chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.
HAAS became Directeur Général de la Société de Louvroil-Recquignies in 1935. The Paris-based company held part of the capital of the Société des Aciéries et Usines à Tubes de la Sarre.
In 1938 HAAS left France and took up the position of Président du Comité de Direction of N. Malaxa in Bucharest (Romania). He probably left Romania for Spain when Nicolae Malaxa, the founder of Malaxa company, was arrested and his factories seized during World War II.
HAAS filed his first patent application in Spain in 1944; he was 59 years old at the time and resided in Bilbao (Spain), at least from 1944 to 1945.
In 1946, HAAS returned to Luxembourg and resided in Mersch (63 route d’Arlon), at least up to 1950.
He later went back to Bilbao where he died in 1967.
