HAAGEN Michel

Michel HAAGEN was born in Luxembourg-city (Schefferstrasse) in 1893. His father Guillaume HAAGEN was a Klempnermeister.
In 1908 Guillaume established his atelier in 4 rue Guillaume Schneider (Luxembourg-Limpertsberg) and in 1910 he had his business registered in the Company Register as “ferblantier-installateur“.
In the same year (1910) his eldest son Michel HAAGEN obtained his diplôme de fin d’études at the Ecole professionelle in the field of serrurerie artistique.
According to a short biography published in the local press, Michel HAAGEN continued his studies in Munich and Strasbourg.
He later returned to Luxembourg and presumably joined his father in the Limpertsberg atelier.
He married Susanna KUGENER in 1918. She was the sister of Jos KUGENER, a well-known artist.
In 1920 Michel HAAGEN created a company with Léon STEFFEN and Chrétien-Edouard STEFFEN:

Les contractants établissent entre eux une société en nom collectif ayant pour but la fabrication et la vente d’ornements en métaux et d’articles d’arts décoratifs, ainsi que le commerce de produits industriels. Cette société prendra la raison sociale: “J.-P. Welter, successeurs Steffen et Haagen”.
Le siège social est à Luxembourg-gare, rue Cécile, n° 22, dans les établissements ci-devant J.-P. Welter.

HAAGEN, however, left the company already in 1923.
In 1928 the HAAGEN family (father Guillaume, his 3 sons and 2 daughters) set up the company “Guillaume Haagen & Cie” with the object of:

… la fabrication, l’achat et la vente d’articles de: ferblanterie, serrurerie, radiateurs d’autos, installations sanitaires, objets d’art décoratifs et autres similaires.

When the family company was dissolved and liquidated in 1934, Michel HAAGEN set up his own company for “… fabrication et commerce d’objets d’art” in Luxembourg- Limpertsberg (41 avenue du Bois).
Michel HAAGEN was a remarkable artist and craftsman, creating numerous art works.
He died in 1943 at the age of 50.
