GRETEN Auguste

(1870 - 1958)
Reckange-sur-Mess

Auguste Clement GRETEN was born on 25 August 1870 in Reckange-sur-Mess. His father Nicolas was an Ackerer.
Around 1906 Auguste and his brother Charles founded a Maschinenfabrik under the name of “Aug. & Ch. Greten”, located in rue Mercier (Luxembourg-Gare).
Charles, however, left the business around 1914 and started his own company under the name of “GRETEN-HELDENSTEIN”. The company was selling machines agricoles rather than building them, which remained the main interest of Auguste.
Initially Auguste GRETEN developed agricultural machines and later mainly combustion engines. GRETEN made a total of 49 inventions over a period of 50 years; he obtained his last patent in 1952, at the age of 82.
Auguste GRETEN died in Luxembourg-city in 1958.
