GLOESENER Michel

(1792 - 1876)
Hautcharage

Michel GLOESENER was born in Hautcharage on 2 March 1792 in house “Petesch”.
His father Jean Nicolas was an aratoris (farmer). He is said to be of Austrian descent.

La famille Gloesener est originaire d’Autriche ou, plus exactement, de Bohême; l’un de ses membres paraît être resté dans le Luxembourg à la suite des guerres qui ont suivi l’avènement de la maison de Görlitz (Allg. Europ. Wappenbuch, Th. III, fol.73, Nüremberg, 1496).

His mother Elisabeth LICHTFUS is reported to have been related to the Luxembourg NOTHOMB family.

Il [GLOESENER] était allié, du côté maternel, à la famille Nothomb, également originaire du Luxembourg.

Michel WOLTER has provided an extensive genealogical report on the GLOESENER family in a publication of 2003.
GLOESENER’s scientific and technical achievements are summarised in a Luxembourg publication of 1947.
A number of professional biographies have been written on GLOESENER but the most reliable and thorough of these appears to be that published by Philippe TOMSIN in 1998.
Alphonse LE ROY, as early as 1869, published a fairly detailed biography as well.
Both authors refer to GLOESENER’s patents in some detail.
Michel GLOESENER died in 1876 in Liège.
