BIAN Emile

Emile Auguste BIAN was born in 1873 in Redange-sur-Attert. His father Léopold was notary in Redange (as of 1860). The latter was also a member of the Chambre des Députés from 1869 to 1875 and from 1893 to1899.
In the Luxembourg-city Census of 1890 Emile BIAN is reported residing in a Hotel in 2 Liebfrauenstrasse as Student, together with 5 more students.
In 1892 Emile BIAN was admitted to the Ecoles des Mines in Liège, but qualified as engineer at the Université de Louvain in 1898.
At the age of 27, BIAN was entrusted with the management of the Dommeldange foundry belonging to A. METZ & Cie.
In 1914 he founded the Institut Emile Metz in Dommeldange.
He made his first invention in 1897, still a student in Louvain. The title of his invention was: “Vitre tournante pour voitures de chemin de fer”.
His second invention was made in 1903 and related to a “Process and apparatus for purifying furnace gases”.
Emile BIAN was a member of the Chambre de Députés from 1916 up to 1918, the year in which he died at the age of 45.
